10 Worst Video Games Of The Last Decade
9. Rollercoaster Tycoon World
The minute Atari launched Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 as a mobile game was the moment the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise officially died. However, as mobile games are far too easy cannon fodder, we instead look towards what followed with the lackluster Rollercoaster Tycoon World.
Fans had been clamouring desperately for a new Rollercoaster simulator since the release of the masterful Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, which brought a beautifully detailed 3D engine into the franchise that still holds up more than competently today. However, the biggest problem was, at the same time as World's production, two different, superior titles were being worked on: Planet Coaster and Parkitect.
Whilst the former was the spiritual successor to the RCT series, complete with developers Frontier at the helm, and the latter was a beautiful, isometric homage to the first two, World was simply a mess.
An ugly, buggy disaster from alpha, to beta, to launch, the game was panned by new gamers and its older diehard fans. They picked it apart for a plethora of reasons, including a lack of ingenuity, a boring interface, completely downgraded graphics, and game-affecting to game-breaking bugs even on release.
A poor show as the Kings of the Coaster crashed and burned.
