9. Head On A Spike - Tomb Raider
Poor Lara! When she was used far too much and became the badass Tomb Raiding, mass-killing lunatic with a penchant for shimmying along ledges we all knew and loved, the developers thought it was time to completely reboot our heroine into something new and gritty.
The newer, grittier Lara is also one that the developers really put through the wringer. If one were to accidentally kill Lara, the developers spared absolutely no expense at thinking of creative ways for her to meet her demise.
Lara can be stabbed to death by a lunatic with a pickaxe, peppered with arrows while her hands are tied, crushed by fallen rocks...the list goes on and on.
However the worst death in the entire Tomb Raider reboot is that which sees Lara have her head brutally impaled on a spike. This can happen at several times during the game, and when it happens, a large, pointy spike will enter Lara's head straight through her throat and stick out of the top of her head afterwards as she flails around, not dying instantly.
Hands up who winced every time this happened?
