10 WORST Ways Video Games Took Away Your Favourite Powers

8. Sonic Loses The Chaos Emeralds Because Knuckles Barges Into Him - Sonic The Hedgehog 3

The third Sonic game opens with a cutscene where Sonic uses the Chaos Emeralds to turn into Super Sonic, implying that regardless of whether or not you personally collected all the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 2, canonically the character did.

And so, as Sonic arrives on Angel Island Zone, he's surprised by the appearance of Knuckles, who bumps into him, causing him to drop all of the Chaos Emeralds and revert into his regular blue self.

Knuckles then runs off with the Emeralds, kickstarting the events of the game, where Sonic and Tails must again attempt to reclaim possession of them.

Knuckles laying a trap to steal the Emeralds from Sonic isn't an inherently bad idea, but couldn't the trap have been something a bit more epic and clever than just...bumping into him?

Sonic has suffered far worse scrapes than that in the previous games without leaking Chaos Emeralds all over the floor, so it doesn't make much sense that Knuckles could liberate the Emeralds from Sonic quite so easily. And yes, we're probably thinking way too hard about this.
