10 Worst Wii U Games So Far

1. Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric

Back in 2010 Sega finally nailed how to do 3D Sonic right with Sonic Colours after over a decade of trial and error. It was a legitimately good platformer with a level of polish that was unprecedented for the franchise even in its 16-bit glory days. This was followed by the equally excellent Generations a year later that convinced long-suffering fans that Colours wasn't a one-off. For some reason Sega then decided to go back to the drawing board with the Nintendo-exclusive Lost World - a game that wasn't completely terrible like Sonic '06, but still felt like a massive step backwards. But that's nothing compared to 2014's Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric - a game so bad it was universally panned by critics and serves as another slap in the face to long-time fans of the speedy hedgehog. Rise forsakes the series' traditional fluid, reflex-based platforming for in favour of light puzzle solving and exploration. Players can freely switch between controlling Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy and use their unique abilities to progress. While it may sound a bit like a modern Sonic Adventure on paper, in reality it plays like Sonic's debut 3D title after it's been hit on the head with a shovel. The camera is nauseatingly terrible, the frame-rate drops constantly and the levels feel like they were nonchalantly farted into existence by their designers. People expect low budget shovelware to be bad, but Sonic is a character with a huge legacy that was once so popular he dared to take on Mario. His spectacular fall from grace since the release of Generations is frankly embarrassing for all involved. What are some of the worst games you've played on Wii U or any other platform for that matter? Sound off in the comments!

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
