There's just something about top-down and/or cartoonish games Microsoft loves to include in its selections for Games with Gold. A very select few of them can be good, but Knight Squad wasn't one that fell into that category. Knight Squad is a sort of Bomberman hybrid that can be played with friends or alone, however being played with friends is really the only way anyone could get enjoyment out of this. This is unfortunately just another game that feels like a flash game with a little bit more depth than one would have. That depth doesn't run very deep, as after about 20 to 30 minutes of playing the game you've run through every game mode already. Yeah, there's a challenge mode with maybe eight challenges with only one being remotely difficult. The game is not meant to be played alone, which is understandable, but you'd be hard pressed to find a group that will pick this game to play over any other co-op or competitive game out there right now. Even if you found that group, the chances they played it for more than 20 minutes would be even slimmer. After getting Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Valiant Hearts: The Great War and The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season all consecutively on the Xbox One, it was hard to swallow the pill of no longer being spoiled that was, Knight Squad.
