10 Wrestlers Who Didn’t Deserve To Be On The Cover Of A Wrestling Game
6. Bobby Lashley - WWE SmackDown Vs Raw 2008
In Bobby Lashley's first run with the WWE, he was heavily pushed. If Brock Lesnar was ‘The Next Big Thing’ in 2002, Lashley was the next next big thing in 2007.
WWE SmackDown Vs Raw 2008 was released in November 2007 and was the first in the long-running WWE SmackDown Vs Raw games to include WWE’s third brand at the time, ECW. So the cover of the game naturally features John Cena representing Raw, The Undertaker for SmackDown and Bobby Lashley for ECW.
The issue here is that by the time the game was released, Lashley had been drafted to Raw five months prior and competed multiple times on pay per view for the Raw brand’s WWE Championship. Also, Lashley was released from his contract only three months after the game came out. He very much seems like the odd one out on the cover, especially given he’s stood next to mainstream stars like Cena and 'Taker, who would both compete in championship matches at the following WrestleMania XXIV.
Why WWE/THQ didn’t choose another ECW wrestler to represent the brand on the cover is curious. Mind, the ECW roster in the game wasn’t the strongest (Marcus Cor Von and Elijah Burke anyone?).
