10 Zelda Items That Are Immediately Made Pointless After You Get Them
5. Sand Rod - A Link Between Worlds
A Link Between Worlds is a fantastic game in the Legend of Zelda franchise, introducing new mechanics and worlds that created an extremely interesting playthrough. However, the sand rod found in the game is virtually useless after you complete the Desert Palace you need it for.
All items in the game are rented or bought by Ravio, a bunny masked person that takes over your house in order to start up their shop. You can rent any item in the game at any time, and once you die the item will be returned to him.
The Sand Rod, however, cannot be rented until after you save Osfala from the painting inside the Thieves’ Hideout because he had rented it prior. After this you may rent it and enter the Desert Palace, where you use it to create pillars of sand that you can meld into and walk upon.
There isn't a ton of sand in Hyrule or Lorule, making this rod completely useless after saving the sage painting. Especially considering you have to spend money to obtain this item, and you don’t receive it until much later in the game, it feels like a slap in the face for it to be so useless after the Desert Palace.
