100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil
25. Resident Evil On The Saturn
Resident Evil 4 might be one of the most ported games of all time but Capcom didn't skimp on getting the original RE into as many hands as possible, following the PlayStation release with a port for the PC, the DS in 2006 and, perhaps the most interesting, one for the ill-fated Sega Saturn.
Being that the Saturn worked completely differently from the PS1 it had to be built from the ground-up. This means the game has a slightly different look, since the system's graphics used a lot more squares as opposed to the Playstation's triangles.
One place where it definitely lacked compared to the PS1 was the ability to render transparency. It does a decent job with the underground Aqua Ring but there's a major difference in one of the game's final areas. The room where players fight the Tyrant is traditionally full of glass tubes filled with green liquid, but in the Saturn version these are smashed to save attempting to render the transparency.
Of course, the Saturn port also features a few more additions - a unique Hunter variant called the Tick in the caves as well as a second, gold coloured Tyrant at the end of the game if the player picks Chris at the start.
