11 Facts You Never Knew About The Development Of Metal Gear Solid

9. David Hayter's Voice Recording Process Was... 'Unique'

David Hayter's signature voice defined Solid Snake as a legendary video game character, with his performance as the hero being up there with some of the industry's greats. Obviously, it takes some dedication to play the same character for almost twenty years, and with the amount of dialogue and sound effects needed for a series like this, it can't be easy to make every performance distinct. But in an attempt to give the best performance possible, Hayter actually put himself through the ringer on more than one occasion. After all, someone has to record all those grunting noises and shrieks that indicate when your character's been injured in a game, yet Hayter went one step further to make sure those additional character traits were authentic. In fact, while recording the vomiting noises for Snake in the third game, the voice actor actually threw up all over the mic itself after trying and failing to get the noise just right. It probably wasn't the prettiest sight, but at least it made for some true-to-life voice acting for the eventual release.
