11 Gaming Industry Quotes That Aged Horribly
10. "All Our Game Studios Should Use The Kinect"
While Sony primarily promoted the PlayStation 4 as a gaming console, Microsoft wanted to sell the Xbox One as an all-in-one entertainment device. They even highlighted how the Kinect was now an integral part of their plans for game development. But this did not resonate with gamers as they would have hoped and forced them to defend the inclusion of the Kinect and other Xbox One features.
As a result, many high ranking officials of Microsoft’s gaming department were doing multiple interviews to try and win back concerned fans, including Phil Spencer.
In an interview with VentureBeat about the Xbox One, Spencer would not only reiterate that all their studios should use the Kinect, but also stated it was critical that Microsoft made the Kinect show up across core games, television, communication and web-browsing functions.
There are three reasons for why this quote aged so badly. Firstly, it did not reassure fans and only made the situation worse. Secondly, few developers at Microsoft made use of the Kinect. And thirdly, the Kinect was discontinued for all Microsoft hardware less than a month after Spencer was promoted to Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft.
