What do you get when you have one brilliant iteration in a franchise that's swiftly followed by another that hits with as much impact as a Jack Thompson lawsuit? A once in-development, now canned 'n forgot-about sequel that's what.
The first Getaway game remains one of those times we all saw some gameplay footage or batch of screenshots and suitably lost our minds at how incredibly realistic and mind-blowing the game's version of digital London looked. Little did we know how far graphics would go in the future, but when the first Getaway dropped in all it's cockney gangster and Snatch-style swagger, it was the nearest thing we had to a English version of Grand Theft Auto so far - yet it felt far more gritty and intense.
The latest update in 2008 came from Sony when they announced the series was actually not cancelled, but instead would be entering what's now turned into a lengthy hiatus; assumedly so they could do their vision of a living, breathing London the utmost justice. Well, on a console starved of triple-A system selling titles, the PS4 could be the perfect platform to bring back everyone's favourite romp through London town, so once again it's finger-crossing time.
