11 Things We Learned At The PlayStation Experience 2017
6. Detroit: Become Human Continues To Look Stunning & Fascinating
As is beginning to sound like a broken record, Detroit: Become Human also didn't get a release date as many hoped and expected, with the ambiguous target date still being Spring 2018.
Still, fans were treated to a lengthy gameplay demo in which the audience were encouraged to interact and shout out their own desired responses.
The sequence, which appeared to be from the beginning of the game, shows android Connor attempting to diffuse a hostage situation after a rogue android takes a human child at gunpoint.
The demo showed off the player's "mind palace", aka their ability to scan the surrounding environment and find objects to interact with, as well as how to create theoretical reconstructions based on discovered evidence. Intense sequences such as this are also governed by a soft timer to keep prodding the player along (in this case, take too long and gunfire will ring out, killing a soldier).
The demo made clear the sheer number of choice permutations available to the player, and how the hostage situation can be resolved many different ways. Though director David Cage always tends to make a hash of his interactive dramas by the third act, it's still hard to deny how gorgeous and intriguing this looks.
