11 Times Final Fantasy Pissed Off The Fans

8. Performing Side-Quests For Trivial Rewards

Completionists will feel obligated to go on every side-quest while playing Final Fantasy. Although these missions aren’t necessary, they usually allow the player to obtain upgrades, summons, and new characters.

But there are some quests so laborious, difficult, and time-consuming, no reward can be worth it. The Weapons on a Rampage mission in FFVII Remake is so tedious, few players will try it again when replaying the game. After you dodge lightning 200 times in a row in FFX to get a cool weapon for Lulu, you'll wonder why you bothered.

Expeditions like this are far more frustrating when the reward is so... unrewarding. Do you know how annoying it is to spend four hours on a side-mission to get a sword… and then you find a better sword in the main campaign?

The worst example of this issue occurs in FFIX. There is a side-quest that's so complicated, it took 13 YEARS for anyone to complete it!! In the last disc, a NPC asks Zidane's party to help him find his brother. If you fight a boss and then return to this character's house, you'll learn another sibling has gone missing.

If you perform this sequence ten times (which takes an eternity), you'll be rewarded with (drum roll) a protect ring... which you can buy in any shop. It goes without saying that whoever concocted this side-quest has their own personal rung in hell.
