11 Unannounced 2014 Gaming Sequels That Will Sell Millions

1. Anything Involving Valve (And The Number Three)

Its fairly obvious at this stage that Valve love to torture us. It's been nearly seven years since the cliffhanger ending to Half-Life 2: Episode Two and we still have seen nothing to indicate a follow-up is coming anytime soon. Instead, Valve seem to have moved onto other projects (including their own operating system and hardware) €“ has Half-Life 3 been forgotten? Surely not, but you have to wonder: the entire gaming community has been begging for even the slightest morsel of information regarding a new Half-Life game yet Valve has maintained an impressive silence. Still, Half-Life is far too popular a series to simply cast aside; Half-Life 2 was hailed as a masterpiece when first released in 2004 and it paved the way for Valve to become one of gaming's biggest developers, allowing them to release a string of hugely successful titles. Speaking of which... Portal is a game that seemingly came out of nowhere. Included on the Orange Box (a bundle package from Valve which included Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two), Portal seemed like a tech demo for Valve to experiment with their Source engine but the game's black humour and ingenious portal gameplay made it as important to the Orange Box as its bigger name brothers. Portal developed such a big fanbase that a sequel was released in 2011; a sequel which extended and developed the storyline from the original, focusing mainly on the central characters Chell and GlaDOS, the AI overlord of Aperture Sciences. The unique puzzle gameplay of Portal deserves a third game and we'll undoubtedly see Portal 3 at some point, though the seemingly never-ending wait for Half-Life 3 may say otherwise. Another series developed by Valve, Left 4 Dead, could also be receiving a third instalment soon. A four-player shooter set during a zombie apocalypse, Left 4 Dead emphasised teamwork and co-operation as four survivors tried to escape the undead hordes. The game's crown jewel was the Versus mode which allowed four survivors to face off against four undead players who controlled the game's 'Special Infected' (stronger enemies with unique abilities €“ the Boomer for example, could vomit on players and attract the undead to them); despite featuring relatively short campaigns, Left 4 Dead had a lot of replay value and is still a popular game online. Again though, Valve has yet to reveal any plans for a third game in the series. Clearly Valve just has a problem with the number three (are they superstitious?). Hell, even a Team Fortress 3 announcement would go down a treat. The best case scenario is that Valve are holding all these games back to suddenly release them in a bundle €“ The Three Box, featuring Half-Life 3, Portal 3, Left 4 Dead 3 and Team Fortress 3. Of course, life is unfair and this will almost certainly never happen (if it does though, I'm claiming royalties for the idea). So please Valve, please release a sequel to one of these great franchises sometime this year. You'll be rewarded with players throwing money at you and we'll be rewarded with another great game. It's a win-win situation. Of course, there are plenty of other sequels that could arrive in 2014 which would be big business for the games industry. Is there a game you really want to see a sequel to this year? Do you own the key to Valve's secret closet where they've stashed all the copies of Half-Life 3? Let me know in the comments below.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
