11 Video Games With Severely Underused Secondary Characters
8. The Merchant - Resident Evil 4
The Merchant is a shadowy figure that seems to stalk Leon as he progresses through the dreary Spanish countryside in Capcom's brilliant Resident Evil 4. Despite him not having virtually any effect on anything that's going around him, and due to the fact that he's one of the very few friendly creatures in the entire game, most players came to like this weird character. His appearance is simultaneously friendly and menacing, both fitting to the surroundings and feeling weirdly out of place. Resident Evil has never been a stalwart example of logical storylines and meaningful events, but this pseudo-character has too much flair to ignore. The slightly cockney accent alone gives us an idea of what kind of a person we might be dealing with. Not to ignore the fact that he speaks fluent english, either. For a lowly trader, he sure has his ways of dealing with pretty much anything that comes his way.
