11 Video Games You Won't Believe Are Almost 20 Years Old

6. Twisted Metal

Where Destruction Derby was a raucous display of what could happen if we pushed readily-available cars to their limits, Twisted Metal took the vehicular-combat premise and filled it full of nitrous oxide. With a brilliant art design that sat somewhere between 1990's Slipknot-style shock-tactics and older heavy metal artwork, you'd dive into anything from the demented clown-fronted Sweet Tooth's van to the bigger Harley-styled Mr. Grimm to rip apart your opponents. In a gaming landscape that already had something of a bad-boy image thanks to Mortal Kombat and the incoming Carmageddon, Twisted Metal garnered a sizeable following. The vehicular combat genre has since pretty much fizzled out, but we did see TM itself return last year for another go round of violent old-school thrills.
