5. Star Wars: Dark Forces

We recently took a look at a whole bunch of Star Wars titles in an attempt to crown one of them the greatest of all, and one of the most high-ranking was the Dark Forces-turned-Jedi Knight shooter series. By using an extremely similar-looking game engine to that of award-winning and instantly-playable titles like Doom and Duke Nukem, it easily wrangled up thousands of pre-Episode I fans into a stupor. LucasArts standout production qualities and belt-stretching budget didn't go amiss either, with some brilliantly nostalgic-looking cutscenes that mixed both 2D and 3D together, alongside snappy arena-based gameplay and never-before-seen jaw-droppers like ships animating in the sky polishing everything off nicely.
