When the murderers came to loot her house she seduced one of them, but made them promise to let her mourn for thirty days before either claimed her hand in marriage. They agreed. She then took the opportunity to invite some of her husband's friends over and when the first murderer, Gui Lan, came a month later to court Lady Xu, she took him into her bedroom and got him drunk. Once he was drunk and careless, she and her late husband's friends - who were disguised as women - sprang out and stabbed him to death.
Dai Yuan fell for the same trick and Lady Xu took the murderers' heads to the capital and presented them to her brother-in-law, Sun Quan. Afterward the men who helped her avenge Sun Yi were granted the dead man's old rank and positions.
