8. Spyro The Dragon - Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Everyone's favourite little purple dragon had been having a pretty rough go of it for a while. The last good game in his series before 2018 was Year of the Dragon, Insomniac's final game in the series, all the way back in the year 2000.

Post-Insomniac, Spyro's next outing was the awful Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, developed by Check Six Studios. It was short, the gameplay was clunky and the jank, oh, good god, the jank! Spyro would clip through environments and even swim through the air.

For context of just how bad it was: the speedrun record is one minute and seven seconds. This felt like nothing more than Check Six taking advantage of a popular character they didn't actually care about in order to make some cash - and they did, it sold pretty well.

Following that, Spyro had a few Game Boy Advance outings which were...meh. Then a weird gritty reboot starring Elijah Wood which was dull and just tonally wrong for the little guy.

Eventually, following the success of Crash Bandicoot's remake (stay tuned), Activision announced the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and it was glorious. All the joy and fun of the originals given a fresh lick of paint, with Stuart Copeland's original score updated. The whole thing made for the perfect 'bad day' game.
