Sony may have made their name as the cool kids of video games, but PS5 launch title Astro's Playroom succeeds by evoking a child-like sense of wonder in the player.
Astro's Playroom is arguably the best launch title since Wii Sports, in that it perfectly showcases the new machine's capabilities while still being a great experience in its own right.
Built around the PS5's DualSense controller, Sony's revolutionary tech lets you feel in your hands how Astro is affected by his environment. Whether he's shivering in the snow or trudging his way through mud, the controller adapts and offers the appropriate level of vibration or resistance to convey whatever situation Sony's plucky bot finds himself in.
It's genuinely incredible tech and, while we appreciate the flashy graphics of Demon's Souls and the absurdly fast load times of Spider-Man, it was the genuine, giddy sense of wonder Astro's Playroom engendered that left us truly feeling like the next generation had arrived.
