12 Best Video Games Of 2020 - Ranked Per Month
8. August - Factorio
This month was a hard one to call. In a two-horse race between Microsoft Flight Simulator and Wube Software's Factorio, the new kids on the block narrowly won out.
Flight Simulator was undoubtedly a triumph, and its staggeringly detailed recreation of the real world is arguaby the most impressive graphical feat in gaming to date, but Factorio's unique blend of construction, management and tower defense was a cocktail too enticing to ignore.
To get the obvious drawback out the way, Factorio is an ugly game. Screenshots of late game factories look someone regurgitated a bowl of spaghetti over a model train set, but Factorio's genius is that each of its ugly, unappealing factories looks like a work of art to its creators.
Like a proud parent, anyone who plays Factorio will overlook the aesthetic flaws of their creation and see only the hours of careful planning and hard work that went into it.
Also like parenting, Factorio isn't for everyone. But those who take the plunge will soon find themselves utterly subsumed by its life-consuming charms, and boring everyone they know senseless with tales of their creation's latest achievements.
