12 Best Video Games Of 2020 - Ranked Per Month

6. June - Mr. Driller Drill Land

Nothing is easier than to denounce the evildoer; nothing is more difficult than to understand him. - Fyodor Dostoyevsky

There. Now you can save yourself the 20 torturous hours The Last of Us Part II spends drilling this lesson into your skull.

Why not spend the time saved on Mr. Driller: DrillLand, a video game that's actually entertaining? (Because Christ knows 2020 was miserable enough already without Naughty Dog's misery fetish simulator squashing our ever-dwindling supply of happiness like a sumo wrestler on a dogpile).

DrillLand -yes, it really is just one word- is an effortlessly charming game (If you haven't already, check out the theme song in the attached video to cheer yourself up).

The chuckleworthy cutscenes are a throwback to the best kinds of Saturday Morning Cartoon, and the five games included offer some of the best puzzling since the last Mr. Driller game made its way to our shores all the way back in 2009.

Video games are about entertainment first and foremost, and few games in 2020 came close to Mr. Driller DrillLand in terms of putting a smile on our face. Thank you, Namco, for making a dreary year a little bit brighter.

(But maybe don't make us wait another 11 years for the next one).
