12 Bizarre Japanese Video Games You Won’t Believe Exist
9. Cubivore (GameCube)
On the face of things, Cubivore looks perfectly sweet - a top-downish adventure game in which you control a cuboid pig and fight other similarly cubey creatures to grow in size and strength, and evolve key organs like your tongue and stomach. But it doesn't take a lot of time to realise that there's something very, very strange about this game. On each level, you collect little power-ups called Lovebits, which make it more likely that you'll be able to hump your fellow Cubivores, and subsequently have them give birth so you can choose a new baby Cubivore to start the next level with. Disturbingly, the old one dies when it gives birth to its successor. Weirdly, the evolution of your Cubivore through the game goes from pig to bear, to chicken. A very strange world indeed...
