12 Gaming Sequels That Aren't In Development (But Really Should Be)

5. Shenmue 3

It seems like a week doesn't go by where a rumour doesn't appear about Shenmue 3 possibly being in production or at least being hinted at by someone's mother's cousin who maybe interned at Sega for a summer. Both Shenmue games were released to huge critical acclaim, though failed to sell like hotcakes as Sega had anticipated, which didn't exactly help the Dreamcast's already dire financial situation, eventually causing it to hurtle into the gaming abyss. Despite Shenmue II eventually being ported to the Xbox, there has been little serious discussion of a third game, all the more frustrating because the second game left players on an agonising cliffhanger, which 13 years later has yet to be resolved. The fact that Sega's Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed features series protagonist Ryo Hazuki is a testament to the franchise's cult popularity, but apparently it's not enough for them to realise how well Shenmue III would sell. I would gladly sell my first-born for this game. Seriously.
