12 Hidden Gem PS4/Xbox One Games You Must Play

2. CounterSpy

Another one for the original ideas list, CounterSpy takes the fantastic '2.5D' approach Shadow Complex did whereby you're locked to a side-on view, yet the levels you journey through are rendered in 3D. It allows you to take out guards and cameras in the back or foreground, whilst also introducing the brilliant dynamic of taking cover behind a variety of objects, whereby the camera will rotate 90 degrees and flip the gameplay into a cover-based shooter. Plot-wise you're a spy caught in the middle of the Cold War attempting to steal plans, items and weapons from both the Americans and Russians simultaneously. If one side's alert meter gets too high then you'll have to find officers within the world to surrender and bring it down again, not to mention picking the right combination of missions to eventually reach an end goal. With a fantastically over-animated art style that's reminiscent of Team Fortress 2 and a gameplay engine that'll surprise you with a heady mix of context-based stealth attacks and run n' gun shooting if things go sour, CounterSpy is a total delight. Oh, and if you're reading this in March 2015, it's free on the PS Store right now.
