12 Hilariously Awesome Glitches Ever Engineered By Bethesda

7. Oblivion - Friendly Enemies

While a revolutionary title in how NPCs operated and behaved in open world games, Oblivion was hardly without a few distinct flaws when it came to faction interaction. Often splitting up groups into multiple sub-factions, supposedly well allied and friendly forces could easily end up attempting to murder one another thanks to a slight mistake. Perhaps the most common occurrence of this is during the quest The Battle for Castle Kvatch, shortly after several Imperial Legionaries join the player's efforts to drive out the dremora. The odd stray arrow from the archer accompanying them will instantly turn the Kvatch Guards against the Legionaries, and the two allies can end up in a whirling melee to the death at the drop of a hat. More humorous examples can be found in many other quests when the Legion comes to the defense of certain NPCs, with the Anvil Recommendation quest resulting in Legionaries attacking Battlemages trying to bring down a serial murderer. Yes, the Legion seems to do this quite a lot. However, the crowning example can be found in the Arcane University. The majority of times running up and punching a guard will result in the usual "Stop right there criminal scum!" remarks the Legion is known for, but once in a while resisting arrest results in something very different. Rather than watching as the guards take down a lawbreaker, every mage in the place immediate takes up arms against one another in a massive free-for-all of fireballs and lightning.
