12 Most Hotly Anticipated Original Gaming Properties Of 2014

2. Quantum Break

Is it a game or a TV show? According to Remedy - masterminds behind the noirish revenge story of Max Payne and Stephen King psychological horror influenced Alan Wake - Quantum Break is both. And when you have no black marks on your CV, ambition is only a good thing. Remedy hasn't shown much gameplay at all, but everything from the cinematic trailers to the developer interviews have done nothing but spark interest in the innovative project. Apparently, after linear third person chapters, players will be instructed to watch an episode of a television show, in which they can make choices that will alter gameplay and what happens in the story. The gameplay itself also looks very refreshing, as time can be manipulated to your advantage in the various shootouts that will undoubtedly permeate those segments. Essentially, there will be rifts in the space-time continuum that drastically alter your environment, forcing you to find alternate cover on-the-fly. Quantum Break feels like a natural evolution of what Remedy was going for with Alan Wake, but couldn't entirely pull off due to hardware limitations. With the Xbox One, it seems the impossible is now possible.
