It's very easy to look at Activision's slate of "triple-A remakes" and claim they're nostalgia-baiting cash grabs.

They absolutely are nostalgia-baiting cash grabs, but they can be great games too.

Alongside the cold, business mentality of banking on proven formulas over anything new, is the reality that talented teams are putting these things together. There exists a window of artistic good inside any corporately-backed green light, and as Crash's N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro's Reignited Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled have proven, Activision SEEM to be letting things come together nicely.

In Tony Hawk's case, the franchise hit a streetlamp and has stayed on the floor since 2015, and that was after a decade of failures in the first place.

Going back to the drawing board is the most baseline goal possible, but with Skate 4 being confirmed, if Vicarious Visions get this right... an entire skateboarding movement will likely return alongside.
