12 More Enjoyably Dumb Things Gamers Do We Can't Explain

8. Trying To Speed Up Loading Hallways

While games aren't technically full of obnoxious loading screens between levels like they used to be back in the good old days, that doesn't mean loading has been eliminated entirely. Instead of taking the control away from the player, developers now instead opt to bring their movement to a crawl, as they walk through corridors that mask the game's limitations while it loads the rest of the level in the background.

Unfortunately, for the most part this is often more infuriating than being able to browse hints and check out some artwork while the title does its thing. Being brought to a virtual standstill - perhaps most infamously in Gears of War where Marcus would put his finger up to his ear and start blabbing while moving at a snail's pace - is ridiculously limiting, and players will do anything to speed the process up.

That often means abusing whatever control over your character the devs have left you with, jumping, rolling or shimmying your way ever so slightly closer to the end. It probably doesn't actually speed the process up, but nobody can say we didn't try.
