12 Most Hated Fighting Game Characters

9. Akuma - Street Fighter II Turbo

One way to easily assess whether a character holds an unfair advantage in a fighting game is to check whether or not they're banned from official tournaments. For all intents and purposes, Street Fighter II's Akuma is omitted from all fighting competitions - and that's the nerfed playable version, not even his original form.

Akuma debuted as a secret boss, the ultimate, punishing, painful test of Street Fighter II Turbo. Before you even got a chance to go toe-to-toe with him, his power was quickly conveyed by him jumping into the arena and literally killing original end boss M. Bison like he was made out of chocolate that'd been left out in the sun for three days.

Despite being an all around powerful, evil dude who could mess you up with a look, it was Akuma's fireballs that were notoriously OP. Between virtually unstoppable wind-ups, excessive damage and unblockable hits, they turned a regular Street Fighter battle from being a test of skill, to a test of pure luck.
