So, this one's got 'geeky niche' written all over it by combining action-RPG gameplay with a card game. And within that niche, Hand of Fate has been warmly greeted, though outside of that it's virtually unheard of.

You progress through the game by sitting opposite a Game Master, who dishes out cards that give you health, send you on adventures, and improve your character. The encounters themselves are played out in a combat system that's based on timing, counter-attacks, and combos not unlike the Arkham series. Admittedly a bit inferior.

There's something warm and meditative about Hand of Fate's meta-gameplay where you hang out with a GM between encounters, and the endless mode is great for jumping into sessions without too much commitment.

But all of that will probably fall on deaf ears for many people as soon as they hear the words 'Card Game', so let's move on, shall we?
