6. Titanfall
It was meant to be the big, hulking game to break up the Battlefield-CoD dominance of the online war shooter. And on a technical level, it kind of was, as two teams of six pilots (and a whole load of expendable bots) took each other on using a mixture of parkour and giant bipedal robots.
Titanfall tried to be different and almost succeeded, though the fact that I'm talking about it in the past tense despite it being only a couple of years old is pretty telling about where it's at now. EA failed to market and support the game properly post-launch, its early days were buggy, and players weren't willing to stick around to wait for it to improve. As such, Titanfall was destined for the scrapyard.
Just months after launch, the servers were empty in this mechanically unique and riveting online shooter. At least EA has seen enough potential in it to warrant a sequel—with added grappling hooks! Stayed tuned for that one...
