12 Ridiculous Video Game Movies You Didn't Know Were Happening
3. Angry Birds
The Game: A ridiculously addictive puzzle game series in which players slingshot birds at enemy pigs scattered around the map in order to retrieve their stolen eggs. As of last year, the Angry Birds series has racked up over 2 billion downloads worldwide, so the announcement of a movie was simply inevitable. The Movie: The movie is being directed by Clay Kaytis (an animator who worked on Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen) and Fergal Reilly (a storyboard artist, whose credits include Spider-Man 2 and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), while Jon Vitti (The Simpsons) writes the script. The ridiculously stacked cast meanwhile includes Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Tony Hale and many more. Why It's Ridiculous: Even if it follows the core "plot" of the games, that some pigs have stolen the birds' eggs, it just doesn't really seem like a game this minimalist really needs a movie at all. Of course, it's just a means for Rovio to extend their billion-dollar brand even further before the bubble inevitably bursts, so they'd probably be dumb not to get this film made (from a financial perspective, anyway). Even so, it's tough to get too excited about it, though at least top dollar has evidently been spent on the cast.
