12 Stunning Video Game Locations You Must Visit Before You Die

3. Anor Londo - Dark Souls

Travelling through the ruined world of Lordran, you'll be taken by its fallen beauty, impressed by its incredibly interwoven design, and fearful of what awaits you around every corner. It's this mix of emotions that makes the world of Dark Souls among the most immersive in video games. But if you had to visit just one location in the game, then Anor Londo would be it. It's the city of the gods, and former home to the Great Lord Gwyn. Architecturally, it's all tall thin spires and cathedrals, and while you get to cautiously traverse a small section of the city, it's one that you wish you could see get down into the streets and explore more of. The silhouette of the main castle in Anor Londo against the dramatic permanent sunset over the city somehow captures the essence of the entire game. It's a world of incredible former glory that's now in a moribund state, and a mere husk of what it was once. I guess you could say it's... hollowed? Of course, those who've been to Anor Londo will be aware that not all is as it seems in the city, but that serves only to make its illusion even more haunting.
