2. The Devs Didn't Know The Game Was Working Until Late In Production

As mentioned, the team at Rocksteady weren't exactly experienced when they took on Arkham Asylum, and it was never a guarantee that the game was going to turn out well.

Even the devs at first weren't certain whether or not they were onto a winner, and that worry extended quite far into development. However all that changed the first time they showed off a playable demo to the higher ups.

Speaking in an AMA, director Sefton Hill explained:

"When we made Arkham Asylum we had no idea it was going to be popular until very late in development. I remember demoing the game to the publisher at one time and there was 2 people from the publisher in the room. After about 3 minutes of the demo, they went and got someone to join then someone else, and then someone else. By the end of the demo there was about 50 people crammed into this tiny room. It was then that we started to think that we might have something a bit special."
