Every game comes with reams of concept art for designs that weren't actually used in the final game, but Arkham Asylum's are particularly stirking. The looks for the iconic heroes and villains in the final game mixed their comic origins with a few modern flourishes, but the discarded designs went down a much stranger route in some instances.

The Joker in particular was supposed to match Harley's asylum garb, donning a twisted doctor's costume to match her nurse outfit. Even spookier, the character's signature grin was originally going to be on account of his scars, similar to Heath Ledger's version of the character, only a little more pronounced.

The Scarecrow's design was also much closer to his comic-book origins, while Batman had a mechanical costume closer to the one featured in Arkham Knight. Check them all out in the link above.
