12 Upcoming Video Game Movies That Could Destroy Tomb Raider
8. Super Mario
Nintendo confirmed earlier this year that they're collaborating with Illumination Entertainment - that's the studio behind Despicable Me and Minions - on a Super Mario animated film.
While the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be a dubious live-action-animation hybrid, it's far easier to believe that a fully animated Mario film will succeed, especially as Illumination's experience with the Minions shows how adeptly they can handle physical comedy and characters who don't speak all that much.
Also, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto will co-produce the film, and with the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. movie setting the bar so low, it'll surely seem pretty decent, even if only by comparison. Given the solid reviews the Despicable Me franchise has earned so far, though, the odds are looking rather good that Mario could reset the critical bar for all video game movies that follow.
There's actually a pretty decent chance this movie scores 65-70% on the Tomatometer. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
