12 Upcoming Video Game Movies That Could Destroy Tomb Raider
6. Metal Gear Solid
If the planned Metal Gear Solid movie ever does get made, it's probably going to be either absolutely terrible or totally awesome, with virtually no room for in-between.
Though it remains to be seen whether or not the film will be a straight adaptation of the original Metal Gear Solid or some sort of amalgam, at least director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) is a hardcore fan of the games, and has repeatedly insisted that he, more than anyone, wants this movie to work.
His passion already gets the movie a leg-up on most other video game movies, given that most of them are churned out by hacks with little interest in the source material beyond grabbing a fast paycheck.
The aesthetic, tone and sheer barmy inventiveness of Hideo Kojima's series could certainly make for a fascinating movie, as long as Vogt-Roberts can stop bean-counting executives from stripping away all of the series' signature eccentricity in pursuit of the broader non-gamer audience.
It's probably the trickiest movie on this list to get right, but if they nail it, it's going to be a watershed moment for video game films.
