The Pitch: Sonic Boom is comprised of two games due for release in November: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U) and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (Nintendo 3DS). These titles will serve as a lead-in to the French animated Sonic TV series of the same name premiering next month, with Rise of Lyric serving as a mixture of all previous Sonic game styles, while Shattered Crystal offers a more traditional 2D effort. Why Nobody Asked For It: Because the Sonic series is so ridiculously played-out by this point, having pretty much done everything players could ever have asked for, and what's been seen of Boom so far just doesn't seem to distinguish itself from the forgettable glut of Sonic games that have hit stores in recent years. In speaking about the E3 demo, Metro claimed that, "the very worst game in the line-up was Sega's Sonic Boom, which was so unspeakably awful we couldn't even force ourselves to play through the whole demo". Short of a miracle, expect another pair of thoroughly mediocre Sonic games that are completely forgotten a few short weeks following their release.
