3. Alone In The Dark: Illumination Is A Glorified Free-To-Play Game
The Game: The sixth Alone in the Dark game trains its focus on a 4-player co-operative online experience, in the hope of reinvigorating the troubled franchise.
Why It's A Ripoff: Because it's being developed by Pure FPS, who don't even have a freaking webpage, and
early Beta reviews suggest that it's essentially a pile of hot garbage, clearly intended to make a quick buck off its title alone. While the current pre-order price on Steam is for the seemingly reasonable price of $30/£22.99, this is clearly only because publishers Atari are aware that they have a s***show on their hands, and need to incentivise players to consider giving it a try. Even so, the gameplay footage shown off so far suggests a game that's probably wouldn't even pass muster as free-to-play.
Will People Buy It Anyway?: Thankfully, probably not. The critically-savaged 2008 Alone in the Dark reboot scarcely sold 1 million units, and that had a much higher-profile than this, which has pretty much flown under the radar for all but the most hardcore fans of the series. Expect this to be the death knell for a series that once upon a time actually meant something, short of yet another reboot in a few years' time.
