12 Upcoming Video Games Blatantly Trying To Rip Gamers Off

10. Evolve Has $136 Of DLC Not Covered By The Season Pass

The Game: Turtle Rock Studios' (Left 4 Dead) latest squad-based multiplayer shooter, as four humans attempt to hunt down a giant, evolving monster. Alright, it's technically already released, but most players aren't going to get proper face-time with it until this weekend, so it makes the cut regardless. Why It's A Ripoff: Even ignoring the fact that the single-player mode is incredibly transparent, to get the "full" Evolve experience, you're going to need to shell out an extra $136. The items are largely cosmetic in nature, and that cost comes on top of paying for the game and its Season Pass. Unsurprisingly, gamers feel rather gouged by the move, and Turtle Rock have had to attempt to defend their decision in recent weeks (to little avail). Will People Buy It Anyway?: The game will likely sell well thanks to strong reviews, as will the Season Pass. As for this extra DLC? It's unlikely to be off-the-charts successful, even though cosmetic items do typically sell enough for developers to keep pumping time and money into making them. Hopefully players will feel like they're already spent enough on the game and the Season Pass to give them a miss.
