12 Video Games PlayStation Sent Out To Die
1. The Quiet Man - PS4
The Quiet Man is a beat 'em up, where you play as a deaf character. To emphasise the confusion and disorientation a deaf person may endure, the story is conveyed with muted sound and no subtitles. To give The Quiet Man a more cinematic feel, the story is mainly told through detailed FMV sequences with live-action performers.
Based on the concept and premise, you'd think The Quiet Man had the potential to be truly special. But not only was it appalling, the PS4 port received a MetaCritic score of 28%, making it possibly the worst rated game on the console.
Ironically, The Quiet Man's biggest flaw is also its biggest selling point. Because the story is devoid of dialogue or subtitles, players hadn't a clue what was going on! Not only was the FMV segments unnecessary, the constant switching from live-action to game footage was jarring.
To be fair, you can forgive these blunders if the gameplay was up to par. Unfortunately, The Quiet Man's combat system is so unnecessarily complicated, many players couldn't be bothered to learn it, compelling them to rely on tedious button-mashing.
Just to remind you, The Quiet Man wasn't some indie project. It was published by Square Enix for crying out loud!
Taking these criticisms on-board, Square Enix updated the game, so it included audible sound. But for some ludicrous reason, this option can only be accessed AFTER you complete the inaudible version!
Due to The Quiet Man's abysmal gameplay, incoherent storyline, and the developers' failed attempt to resolve the issue, it's no surprise why it's regarded as 2018's worst game.
