If your partner has a penchant for sprawling sci-fi epics like Star Wars and Star Trek then Mass Effect may be a game that they'll end up getting obsessed with. Mass Effect pops you into the shoes of Commander Shepard in a Galaxy populated by lots of interesting alien races (from the hot-headed behemoths that are the Krogan to the highly intelligent Salarians and the strangely attractive Asari) that are all under threat from a mysterious race called the Reapers. While the combat and RPG mechanics are excellent, the main hook is the moral choice system that the player can use to shape their own story. You always have a choice of what to say in any given situation and those choices can have dramatic, tangible consequences. It's not all doom and gloom, though as you can choose which crewmate you'd like to have a relationship with as well. You can even cheat on them if being an intergalactic love machine has always been your goal in life. Mass Effect takes advantage of gaming as a medium to tell an epic story that just couldn't be told in a TV show or movie. It's guaranteed to appeal to anyone that loves epic, convoluted science fiction awesomeness.
