12 Worst Video Games Of 2022

11. The Waylanders

Babylon's Fall
Gato Studios

The Waylanders is a role-playing game centred around Celtic mythology in Pre-Christian Ireland. Being on early access since 2020, Gato Studios had plenty of time to tweak this role-playing title to perfection.

But when The Waylanders was finally released, virtually none of its issues were resolved. There are so many missing translations and cutscenes, you wonder what the developers were working on between the early access version and the finished product.

But that's just the tip of a very large iceberg. The game has awkward controls, wildly inconsistent difficulty, confusing character stats, and shoddy dialogue. Although the combat focuses on the importance of your team's formation, it has little effect on each battle's outcome. The camera is atrocious and becomes all the more infuriating when you can't see what you're doing during battle.

You know what the sad thing is? You can tell a lot of love was put into this project. Not only is the plot compelling, the writers clearly have a deep knowledge and passion for Irish legends. (They even pronounce the Gaelic names correctly!) If Gato Studio put as much effort into the gameplay as they did with researching Celtic lore, The Waylanders could've been something special.
