8. The Last Oricru

Babylon's Fall
Golden Knights

It's nearly impossible to play any Soulsborne game without comparing it to Hidetaka Miyazaki's work. However, The Last Oricru avoids coming across as a Dark Souls rip-off, since it focuses on decision-making, rather than epic boss battles. Throughout your playthrough, it's made clear each choice you make shapes the narrative. As a result, this action role-player should feel different every time you play it.

However, the developers should've focused on something more important than replayability - playability. The weapon and magic systems are so needlessly complicated, you don't understand why the creators didn't just steal Dark Souls' set-up. I mean, copying another game is uncreative, but at least it would've made The Last Oricru more tolerable.

Enemy encounters are never fair, not because they're hard, but because the controls are unpredictable. If you perform an evasion technique, you don't know whether you'll tumble to your doom, fling yourself at your enemy, or stand motionless, allowing your foe to kill you with ease. As a result, your best battle in combat is mindlessly spamming, which is never fun.

Despite the solid graphics and consistent frame-rate, the maddening combat makes The Last Oricru a swing and a miss.
