13 Biggest Things We Learned From E3 2018's Press Conferences
10. Fallout 76 Is Risky, And Bethesda Know It...
Fallout 76 wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms upon its large-scale reveal at E3.
Despite putting gaming's lord and saviour Todd Howard out before the people and giving him half an hour to use that devilish silver tongue of his to try and sell it, fans just aren't entirely behind the idea of a multiplayer Fallout. Whilst there's lots to be excited about within the premise, many of the core concepts - such as players being allowed to freely launch nuclear missiles at each other's bases - mean the game's already becoming quite divisive among fans.
But perhaps the most enlightening bit about Bethesda's conference is that they seemed to be completely aware of it. Allowing Howard to bring out the big guns, Bethesda dropped trailers for both the heavily rumoured Starfield and the wildly anticipated Elder Scrolls VI, essentially leaving the audience with a nerd-induced coma and a promise that 76's multiplayer wasn't the standard for future releases.
Whilst it meant the conference ended on a much more enticing note, it's clear these were little more than distractions used to soften the concerns surrounding Bethesda's plans. Knowing Howard's talent, there's every chance the game will be sensational, however, it's hard to gauge confidence when Bethesda themselves don't seem entirely sure of its success.
