13 Flat Out Lies We Were Told Just To Sell A Video Game

3. All Your Choices Will Matter In Mass Effect 3

The Lie(s): "There are many different endings. We wouldn€™t do it any other way. How could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets?" - Mike Gamble (Associate Producer) "This story arc is coming to an end with this game. That means the endings can be a lot more different. At this point we're taking into account so many decisions that you've made as a player and reflecting a lot of that stuff. It's not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C." - Casey Hudson (Director) "Whether you're happy or angry at the ending, know this: it is an ending. BioWare will not do a "Lost" and leave fans with more questions than answers after finishing the game." - Mike Gamble (Associate Producer) The Truth: Every single one of these claims turned out to be false: after players spent three games getting emotionally invested in BioWare's brilliant, gorgeous world, the payoff was "pick a colour, sit back and watch", which proved so unsatisfying that one fan complained to the Federal Trade Commission about false advertising, who nevertheless rejected it. As it turned out, so little of what the player did mattered in the end, which couldn't have ended the series on a more depressing, dispiriting note, even if a free "Extended Cut" DLC was released to soften the blow slightly.
