The Lie: Bungie repeatedly re-iterated ahead of release that Destiny had a "10-year plan" in order to keep gamers coming back. The Truth: Within mere days of the game's release, players had blasted through the short story mode and hit the soft level cap of 20, and just last week, the first player in the game hit the hard cap of level 30, suggesting that Bungie just haven't provided enough content to keep players coming back for months on end. Even ignoring the game's numerous other misgivings, will some DLC really be enough to keep the game alive for a decade? While Bungie haven't commented precisely on what form the game could take over the next decade (given that the PS5 and Xbox 4 will be out by then), it's difficult to see many sticking with the game as, say, players have with the constantly-evolving, massively time-consuming World of Warcraft, given how simplistic the overall mechanics are, and how much of the end-game hinges on grinding endlessly for loot. It's boring and unrewarding for most players, so even if the level cap boosts once a year, how long will that really keep players interested in a game that, so far, has fallen far short of the hype? Are there any other games which totally lied to you? Shout it out in the comments!
