13 Severely Underrated Horror Games You Must Play For Halloween

13. The Thing

We're all familiar with the premise of the 1982 horror flick, yeah? Shape-shifting alien wreaks havoc on a research station in the middle of the Arctic nowhere? Well, the game serves as a sequel of sorts to John Carpenter's masterpiece. Placing you in control of a Special Forces team tasked with picking through the wreckage in search of survivors, The Thing weaves a story rife with paranoia. The implementation of a 'Trust/Fear' system means that you'll constantly eyeball your troops for the slightest hint that any one of them may be a murderous extraterrestrial draped in human flesh, and they'll regard you with the same level of scrutiny. Stumbling upon mutilated corpses, skulking through pitch-black corridors, encountering 'The Thing' - any of these things can send your men tumbling over the edge, and when you couple the likelihood of being shot by a paranoid squadmate with the constant threat of a shape-shifting alien looming in the background, maintaining a cool head is next to impossible. If it walks like a man, and talks like a man... that's probably only because it's gotten better at playing human beings like giant flesh-puppets. Or not. Either way - don't relax your trigger finger for one second.
