13 Severely Underrated Horror Games You Must Play For Halloween

11. Obscure

I promise you that I didn't pick this one solely because of its title (however apropos it may be). Really. Quick question: how many of you are familiar with movie, The Faculty? That little Robert Rodriguez flick from the late 90s about an alien invasion at a high school (don't laugh dammit, it was awesome)? Well, swap out the extraterrestrials for repulsive beasts that look like they clawed their way out of Lovecraft's most feverish nightmares, and you've got a rough approximation of the kind of game you're in for. With five characters to choose from, the cast is comprised of the usual high school cliches - you've got the nerd, the jock, the little sister, the 'hot chick' and the rebellious stoner (who's basically a stand-in for Josh Hartnett). Doesn't sound very original, does it? Well, don't judge the game too harshly, because where Obscure really stands out is the co-op play - remember the old days when you and a friend/sibling/significant other would just laze on the couch and chomp away at pizza while you teamed up for some split-screen action? If the very memory of those bygone days evokes a pang of nostalgia, this is the game for you. Exploring the pitch-black hallways of Leafmore High with a partner in tow is the kind of bonding experience that's only enhanced when you're shrieking in unison (it's almost like you're competing to see which one of you has the biggest pair of 'scream queen' lungs... or, at least - that's how it felt for me). Every character possesses a unique set of skills, so there's hours of fun in buddying up with a pal, but be careful - characters who are killed will stay dead for the duration of the game. Pretty grim, huh?
